Brahma Purāṇa
The Brahma Purāṇa is traditionally called the ādi-purāṇa, the first purāṇa, and usually heads the list of eighteen. Narrated by the sūta Lomaharṣaṇa, it covers creation, the solar and lunar dynasties and the story of Kṛṣṇa, then devotes long sections to sacred places, especially the tīrthas of Odisha around Puruṣottama-kṣetra (Purī) and the Godāvarī river. Scholars regard the surviving text as a compilation that drew on other purāṇas, despite its traditional title.
