About this course

Vāyu Purāṇa

The Vāyu Purāṇa, proclaimed by the wind god Vāyu, is widely considered by scholars to be among the oldest purāṇas, and in some traditional lists it takes the place of the Śiva Purāṇa. Arranged in four pādas and closely related to the Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa, it gives a classic account of creation, cosmography, the ages of Manu, the lineages of sages and kings, and ends with the praise of Gayā. It is a key text for seeing the purāṇic genre in an early form.
