मत्स्य पुराण
Matsya Purāṇa
Matsya Purāṇa
The Matsya Purāṇa opens with Viṣṇu's fish avatāra, who rescues Manu, the seeds of life and the sages from the great flood and then teaches him as the waters subside. From this dialogue the text ranges widely: creation and the ages of Manu, royal genealogies, vratas and gifts, and some of the purāṇic literature's most detailed chapters on temple architecture and image making. This two-volume course reads both its stories and its practical teachings on dharma and sacred art.
