Bhāgavata Purāṇa
The Bhāgavata Purāṇa is the great scripture of devotion. Across twelve skandhas, the sage Śuka narrates to King Parīkṣit, who has seven days to live, the stories of Viṣṇu's avatāras, the devotees Dhruva and Prahlāda, and, in the tenth skandha, the life of Kṛṣṇa in Vraja, Mathurā and Dvārakā. Studying it shows how philosophy, story and poetry combine into a path of bhakti that has shaped Indian worship, music and dance for centuries.
