Durgā Saptaśatī
Durgā Saptaśatī
The Durgā Saptaśatī, also called the Devī Māhātmya, is a section of the Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa whose seven hundred verses celebrate the Goddess as the supreme power. In thirteen chapters, the sage Medhā tells King Suratha and the merchant Samādhi of the Devī's three great victories: over Madhu and Kaiṭabha, over Mahiṣāsura, and over Śumbha and Niśumbha. Recited especially during Navarātri, it is a cornerstone of Śākta devotion. This course explores its story, philosophy and traditional recitation.
