Śiva Purāṇa
Śiva Purāṇa
The Śiva Purāṇa is a central scripture of Śaiva devotion, narrated by the sūta to the sages of the Naimiṣa forest. Divided into several saṃhitās, whose number and order differ between versions, it tells of Śiva's supremacy, the marriage of Śiva and Pārvatī, the births of Kārttikeya and Gaṇeśa, the twelve jyotirliṅgas, and the meaning of liṅga worship, rudrākṣa and sacred ash. Studying it reveals both the mythology and the living practice of Śiva worship across India.
